EXPOSITION WALL AT USI ACADEMY OF ARCHITECTURE IN MENDRISIO

The project is the preparation of the photographic exhibition entitled "The idyll, changes of a topos."

The precious material exhibited belongs to several authors.

The exhibition starts with fine engravings of 1811 by Carl Wilhelm Kolbe the Elder (1759-1835) showing the famous Idylls of Salomon Gessner; then move to the colorful fotocromie of 90s  XIX century, the company Orell Gessner Füssli, dedicated to the picturesque Alpine and Mediterranean landscapes. It follow the stereographs of pleasant sights and concludes with an iconography dedicated to the dream homes in the contemporary era.

The whole exhibition is based on the special funds of the academy library. Through these chapters is shown historical recurrence of the utopia of a life arcadian and idyllic, using the forms mundane, tourist and architectural.

Salomon Gessner (1730-1788), the poet and artist from Zurich at the center of the exhibition, created with his poems idyllic a true aesthetic phenomenon celebrating Europe - close to the French revolution and the industrial - bucolic utopia regressive.

The happiness of an idealized nature paradise is then translated into a process of aestheticization of treaties on the landscape gardening, in the fashion of country life, in the architecture of cottages, villas and Swiss chalet style, down to the trends of the small house for the weekend the lake of the 50s and to resort to the chill out of today's society.

The exhibition was inaugurated Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 18:30 and will be open to the public until the month of April 2016.
