Can you measure Time? Can you believe in what you are observing now? This project is for an observatory in the gorges of the river Breggia at the ruins of the Casima Mill, in front of one of the biggest rock formations in the gorge.
Breggia Gorge Park is an extraordinary geological site of interest, one of the most important Geotropics in Switzerland. It is listed in the inventory of landscape sites and natural monuments and is recognized as a Geopark model by UNESCO.
Along this stretch of the river, the natural section dug out by the water has laid bare an almost continuous geological profile, dating back to the Jurassic and Tertiary periods (more than 100 million years ago).
From the existing path to the mill a stone platform survives, located in a laguna of trees split by a seasonal water creek.
This basement became the foundations for the observatory, which is made out of a completely mirrored piece of glass in the shape of a cube. The observatory is public and is open year round.
This architecture is inspired by one of my poems and a series of symbolic and valuable objects such as the Diamond.
The reflections and shape of the pavilion are meant to encourage humans to understand themselves in the universe, as a space that surrounds them.
